Affiliate and advertising disclosure

Contractor Lookout is free to use. We pay for it with display advertising and referral fees.

Quote-request partners

Some pages include a box labeled "Get quotes" that links to a home-services marketplace or lead service. We may earn a fee if you request quotes through these forms, whether or not you hire anyone. These partners run their own networks of contractors. Joining a partner network is not the same as having a valid CSLB license, so check any contractor's license here or on CSLB before you sign.

Advertising

Ads are served by third-party networks and are clearly separated from our content. We don't choose individual ads, and an ad is not an endorsement. See our privacy policy for how ad cookies work and how to opt out.

Sponsored listings

If we offer sponsored placements in the future, they will be labeled "Sponsored", limited to licenses with a Clear status, and they will never change a license's status, badge or the information we show from CSLB.

What money never changes

• License status, badges and status history.
• The order of license lists, which is Clear status first, then years licensed.
• Our guides and explanations.
