What "FAM Sup Tmp Lic" means on a California contractor license

Updated November 1, 2026 · Secondary (additional) status

CSLB's license page wording: "This registration may be suspended on [date] for failure to comply with one or more provisions of law."

A temporary license under the family-support process; suspension is scheduled for the date CSLB shows unless the licensee complies.

This flag usually appears before a family support suspension. The license page gives a specific date. In the sample we checked, it read: "This registration may be suspended on 11/13/2026 for failure to comply with one or more provisions of law."

Our reading is that this is the temporary license period under California Family Code §17520, which provides for a 150-day temporary license and notice before suspension. CSLB's page doesn't name the statute, so treat that link as likely rather than confirmed.

Until the date arrives, the license can still be used. After it, the license may be suspended unless the licensee complies. The status doesn't reflect on anyone's workmanship; it is about timing and whether the license will stay valid through your project.

What to do if a contractor you're considering shows this status

  1. Find the suspension date on CSLB's license page.
  2. Compare it with your project timeline, including any delays you can foresee.
  3. Look the license up again just before the date to see whether it changed.

Always confirm the current status on CSLB's Instant License Check; it can change between our weekly refreshes.
